With the 12” (305 mm) Sand Density Cone, it is possible to use the sand method to determine the in-place density of gravel and coarse-grained soils.
The flange which fits on the lower cone permits use of the apparatus on holes up to 12” (305 mm) in diameter. Joining the upper and lower cones is a special valve assembly. The metal jar has carrying handles and a clear plastic top. The unit follows U.S. Army Corps of Engineers specifications.
